“My 8-year old daughter started piano lessons with Ms. Dorene at the beginning of the year. Ms. Dorene is very patient and helpful in her instruction. She works well with children, and has a wealth of knowledge about piano. The way her lessons are structured initially focuses on building a solid technical foundation, which is so important when learning an instrument. She expects her students to put in the work, but is encouraging of their progress and offers useful suggestions to address challenging pieces or skills.
My daughter continues to improve, and performed in her first recital in June. It was a great experience for her, and she has come a long way since she started. I plan for my other two children to take lessons with Ms. Dorene when they’re ready. She also teaches adults – so maybe one day I’ll be able to resume lessons too. “
“I was a past student of Ms. Dorene a few years back, and we still keep in touch to this day! I remember how kind and inspiring she was towards my passion for playing the piano, and how she encouraged me to take on new challenging pieces. She even went out of her way to lend me one of her piano books for a few months during our lessons, which was very nice. Ms. Dorene also didn’t just let me play pieces that were restricted to one genre, but she recommended different books of rock n roll classics, some popular movie pieces, and some pop songs often heard on the radio, so it isn’t just classical music …
She also incorporates some small music theory into our lessons and outside of her workspace which are very useful skills any musician should have. During the lockdown of 2020, she also continued to be flexible and to continue lessons online.
